Timeline
A running record of where the writing came from, year by year. The guides on this site were written between 2021 and 2025, mostly from cities I was living in rather than visiting: Barcelona first, then Switzerland, with long stretches in Southeast Asia in between.
The timeline is the honest version of a travel archive. It is not a bucket list and it is not sponsored: it is the order things actually happened in. 2021 was Barcelona, coming out of lockdown and rediscovering a city I already knew, which is where most of the early restaurant writing starts. 2022 and 2023 were the busiest years on the site, 93 guides between them, split between Switzerland after the move to Zurich and longer trips through Thailand, Vietnam, Greece and Egypt. 2024 and 2025 slowed down and went deeper, with more hotel reviews and more writing about what it is like to live somewhere rather than pass through it.
Barcelona is still the most written-about place here with 42 guides, followed by Switzerland with 27 and Vietnam with 19. Those three are not holidays. They are the places I have paid rent in, which is why the Living Abroad guides read differently from the city guides: they cover paperwork, costs and the parts nobody photographs.
