Haus am Fluss is an Asian food hall and bar on the banks of the Limmat in Zurich, on Sihlquai in Kreis 5, right next to the Unterer Letten river baths. It serves Asian fusion dishes, from rice and noodle plates to bowls, alongside cocktails, with a big riverside terrace. It sits under the overhanging roof of a former cigarette factory, which turns an industrial building into one of the most relaxed spots in the city to eat by the water.
The riverside setting
Haus am Fluss sits between the Flussbad Unterer Letten and the Wipkingen bridge (Limmatbrücke Wipkingen). The design balances open terraces and a beer garden with sheltered seating, so you can enjoy the river while staying protected from bad weather.
Music, plenty of greenery and views over the river come together into an atmosphere that is both calm and lively. It works for a leisurely meal, a celebration or simply unwinding after a swim, and that setting is why location gets four stars from me.
Haus am Fluss menu: what we ordered
The menu is not long, but it focuses on quality over quantity, with carefully chosen Asian dishes. Two that stood out:
- Lemongrass chicken with jasmine rice, CHF 27.30 at the time of my visit
- Sesame tuna with a peanut soba noodle salad and a refreshing hint of watermelon, CHF 29.90 at the time of my visit

The bar
Beyond the food, Haus am Fluss has a large bar with crafted cocktails, wine and a wide choice of other drinks. It is as much a place for an evening drink by the river as it is a restaurant.
Is Haus am Fluss worth it?
Yes, especially in summer. My overall rating is three stars: the food and the riverside location are the highlights, while service and price get two stars each. Zurich is expensive, and a riverside bowl and a cocktail add up, but few places in the city let you eat this close to the water.

Sihlquai runs along the Limmat between Zurich main station and the Wipkingen bridge. Haus am Fluss is about 1.5 km from the main station.
- On foot: around 15-20 minutes from Zurich HB along the river.
- By train: Zurich Hardbrücke is also within walking distance.
- By tram: several lines stop around Limmatplatz and Wipkingerplatz.
- By bike: there are cycle paths along the river.
The area: Letten and the Limmat
The stretch around the Letten is one of Zurich’s favourite summer spots. On warm days locals swim in the river, sunbathe on the banks and meet at riverside bars. If you want to swim, use the official bathing areas such as the Flussbad Unterer Letten, check the current and follow the posted rules.
Nearby you can visit Platzspitz Park, where the Limmat and the Sihl meet, and the Swiss National Museum next to the main station.
